The announcement is part of an effort to update the FDA guidelines for erectile dysfunction drugs to include a new focus on prescription drugs.
"The FDA has been advised that erectile dysfunction drugs are not FDA-approved for use in the United States," Dr. John Jenkins, the FDA's chief medical officer, said in a statement. "We have also been advised that we do not recommend using prescription drugs for erectile dysfunction for men. We will continue to update the guidelines and make decisions as needed based on the guidance provided."
